Buying Guide
- Size and cabin compatibility: Check airline cabin restrictions to ensure the luggage fits as hand luggage for your child’s age, especially for shorter trips or weekend getaways.
- Weight and portability: Lighter luggage reduces fatigue for kids; look for lightweight materials and easy-to-use handles that adjust to the child’s height.
- Mobility features: Ride-on options can engage children, but consider when to switch to conventional rolling luggage to avoid fatigue on longer routes.
- Storage capacity: 20–25 litres is common for 18–20 inch suitcases and should accommodate clothing, toys, and essentials while allowing space for personal items.
- Durability and materials: Hardened shells (polycarbonate or ABS/PC blends) provide better resistance to drops and bumps during travel.
- Organization: Elastic straps, interior pockets, and separate compartments help keep items secure and easy to access at security checks.
- Safety and age-appropriateness: Ensure design features keep kids safe during use and that the weight is manageable for their strength.
- Maintenance: Waterproof outer shells and easily cleanable interiors reduce upkeep after trips in varied weather conditions.
- Value and longevity: Consider whether a 2-in-1 or multi-piece set offers better long-term use and resale value as children outgrow certain sizes.
