Buying Guide

When selecting a ski backpack, consider capacity, protection, fit, and accessibility. Capacity should match the duration of trips: 10–15 litres for short trips and 20–30 litres for longer days with extra layers. Hydration compatibility is essential for long runs; verify bladder capacity and tube routing. Avalanche safety features are crucial for backcountry skiing; Recco reflectors and back protectors increase safety but add weight. Material robustness matters for UK weather; look for water resistance and wear resistance to withstand rain, snow, and abrasive surfaces. Ergonomic design, padded straps, and an adjustable waist belt improve comfort on long slopes or hikes. Compare pockets and organisation to quickly access goggles, maps, snacks, and tools. For city and resort use, lighter packs with breathable mesh back panels can reduce heat and fatigue.
