Buying Guide: Key Purchase Considerations
- Safety standards: Ensure the cot meets current UK/EU safety guidelines, with sturdy frame, locking mechanisms, and a firm sleep surface.
- Weight range and height: Most travel cots cover birth to 15 kg; verify the specific model’s height and maximum weight to support growing toddlers.
- Portability: Look for light weight, compact folding, and a included carry bag or wheels to simplify transit in cars or public transport.
- Mattress comfort: A padded or cushioned mattress supports better sleep; check whether a separate mattress is included or sold separately.
- Ventilation: Mesh sides aid airflow and allow you to monitor your child easily while reducing heat buildup.
- Durability and materials: Fabrics should withstand frequent folding and unfolding, with easy cleaning options for spills or accidents.
- Setup and pack-down speed: Quick and intuitive mechanisms save time during travel days and at hotel rooms.
- Storage and travel logistics: Consider whether the cot fits in your car boot space, and if a travel bag or carry case is included for protection during transport.
- Additional features: Some models double as playpens or include wheels, hatch doors, or adjustable mattresses, which may influence your choice based on travel style.
- Price-to-value balance: Compare included accessories (mattress, carry bag) and weight alongside overall functionality to determine best value.
